A marker in MNR Coaching’s history, Friday 23rd February 2018, the date of our very first Invictus Games Festival. An event held in partnership with Ascot & Maidenhead School Sports Network at Altwood Church of England School, Maidenhead.
A pilot day, constructed to encourage children who have never represented their school at a sporting event before to trial new activities. The day was a raging success, not only FULL to capacity, but exhilarating to see 60 boys and girls, that have never previously attended a School Sport Partnership event before, fully engaged and enjoying themselves. Pride radiated from every child as they represented their respective schools. Accepting the challenge to participate in broad new sports and learn new skills in an enjoyable, non-threatening, yet competitive environment!
The sole focus of the Festival was to encourage new children to participate in physical activity, however as a bit of competitive fun, they were also scored on how well they demonstrated several Olympic and Paralympic values, inspiring positive attitude and behaviour, something sport is so well positioned to establish. Marks were given by the Altwood Leaders in each category, with the highest possible score being 18 (across six sessions) and the results are in:
SCHOOL | Friendship | Respect | Determination | Courage | TOTAL |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Wessex | 16 | 16 | 14 | 14 | 60 |
Larchfield | 15 | 13 | 16 | 13 | 57 |

By all accounts it was an incredible day, and amazing to see so many children gifted the opportunity to enjoy such an event within an environment that allowed them to not only express themselves, but work on social skills as part of their school team!
A huge THANK YOU goes to Altwood School, to your P.E team for allowing us to commandeer your lovely sports hall, for looking after each and every one of us so well and for your inspirational individual school awards. Not forgetting your fabulous team of young leaders who carried out a wonderful job of learning three new activities and introducing them to our athletes in such an understanding and compassionate way, whilst ensuring each child was encouraged and supported to achieve an individual level of success. Fantastic ambassadors for the school!
