MNR Coaching have been working in partnership with primary schools since 2013, implementing the key components to ensure each school is given the best opportunity to meet the School Sport Premium Criteria, with the support of a specialist sports coach.

“Elliott has been amazing this year. He has often gone above and beyond in his role … His attitude and approach to the children, and indeed the staff members, is exemplary.”

Aldermaston Primary School, May 2023

“I just wanted to say how impressed I was with George … professional, friendly and well-organised. He had high expectations for the behaviour of the children … and his knowledge and enthusiasm enabled the children to learn lots whilst having fun.”

Waltham St Lawrence Primary School, February 2023

“How fortunate we are as a school to have such an excellent sports coach as Jay. His understanding of children and their behaviours is good and he has excellent behaviour management. This together with his excellent knowledge of sport and how to deliver engaging sessions enthuses the children and they always enjoy his lessons.”

Purley CofE Primary School, February 2023

MNR Coaching work alongside schools to engage pupils using the MNR Coaching ethos of inspiring, educating and developing.

Specialist coaches working across Berkshire and South Oxfordshire are able to support schools with all aspects of PE Support, including: weekly PPA cover; CPD for staff in-line with the Primary School PE Expenditure (2013) and 1:1 intervention sessions to re-engage pupils into a group setting. MNR Coaching work with each school individually to formulate a suitable age-appropriate curriculum map to maximise engagement, learning and experience with a range of traditional and alternative sport options ably-supported by a specialist online resource. MNR work with sport specific NGB partners to continually up-skill the knowledge and tools for each staff member.

Our coaches work with schools to assess the learning of pupils and support within PE, report this back and share information around meeting minimum standards across a range of fundamental sports skills and technical objectives. To promote accurate and efficient observation and intervention from PE coaches, each staff member is invited to attend annual internal training and relevant external training (L2 NGB awards for relevant sports).

MNR Coaching work closely with schools to provide enrichment opportunities for all pupils with a range of traditional and alternative club programmes. With options of clubs being an extension of PPA and PE lesson cover, or alternatively single hour arrangements, MNR Coaching can support whatever the individual needs for each setting.

Traditional Sports Clubs – an opportunity for children to access their favourite sport for a 10-week course
Alternative Sports Clubs – an opportunity for children to access non-traditional sports and activities for a 10-week course
Multi-Activity Clubs – an opportunity for children to access different sports across a 10-week programme. Programmes are set up for children to access five sports with a learning week and a development week to maximise the progress over the period
Competition Preparation – an opportunity for schools to engage children in preparation for an upcoming competition / series of matches. MNR coaches will work with the same children over a specific period to ensure they are given the best opportunity to enjoy their upcoming experienc

MNR Coaching work alongside Year 5 and 6 children to share leadership skills that can be transferred to breaktime and lunchtime support of younger children. Our coach will mentor the group (maximum of 16 pupils) through six 90-minute sessions, splitting learning focus between planning and delivery. A typical six-week programme would cover:

Four weeks of learners performing within coach-led sessions, focusing on different weekly elements of being a successful leader and identifying good practice when working with groups

Two weeks of learners planning, preparing, and delivering sessions to their peers, with the coach providing feedback on their leadership in week one, allowing for the leadership development in the second week

MNR Coaching work with schools to provide 1:1 support to young people struggling to integrate into large group PE sessions. With programmes formulated to meet the individual needs of each child, MNR Coaching offer both short- and long-term programmes, with the consistent aim of giving the child the best possible experience of their PE lessons.

Example programme outcome:
Mentoring session(s) with the young person to understand the anxiety around inclusion into group work/PE
1:1 sport specific session(s) without other children / PE lessons present
1:1 sport specific session(s) alongside the PE lessons undertaken by another coach / class teacher
